Black Friday Sales: The Best Deals Around

Despite its origins in America, plenty of UK retailers are partaking in the annual US Black Friday sale, which sees retailer slash prices for one day only.

Amazon, Asda and Apple are among companies that are taking part in the one-off sale – despite lots of UK shoppers not really knowing it exists.

In the US, thousands of stores discount their prices the day after Thanksgiving, with many open for longer hours.

Last year a record number of shoppers visited stores over the Black Friday weekend, spending a total of $52bn (£32.6bn) – an average of around $400 (£250) each, according to the National Retail Federation.

Online retailer Amazon was one of the first companies to bring the trend to the UK. It has a week-long Black Friday sale on Monday, which it claims “offers millions of pounds of savings on hundreds of Christmas gifts”.

Here are some of the best Black Friday deals we’ve managed to find so far, we shall add more as we find them, and please add your own in the comments, too.

Gaming download site Steam has an absolute boatload of deals. The amazing puzzle first-person action hybrid Portal 2 is just £3.74. Sleeping Dogs is 50% off at £14.99, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown is just £20.09 – a third off regular price.

Amazon is offering its Kindle Fire tablet (not HD) for just £99.

Apple have some pretty good deals, including £31 off an iPad 4, £21 off an iPad 2 and iPod Touch, and a hefy £81 off laptops.

Meanwhile on the iOS App Store publishers like EA have discounted their top apps, including Monopoly and the Game of Life, to just 69p.

 you can find a huge assortment of deals. Today they include an Optoma HDMI Projector for £299, and a ‘professional wireless weather centre’ for £39.99 – always useful.

Five classic indie games for $10 (about £7) at Good Old Games.

Currys is holding a ’100 hour price crash’ with some tasty deals included. Some of the best are £250 off a Sony Bravia 3D telly, £70 off a Samsung NX210 compact camera and £120 off an Acer Aspire touchscreen Windows 8 PC.

Microsoft are getting into the Black Friday spirit, too, with a 50% sale on certain Xbox Live content. Plenty of DLC is up for grabs at a cheaper price, as announced by Major Nelson on his blog.

What exactly can you expect? Mass Effect 3′s Leviathan DLC is available for 400 Microsoft Points. Batman: Arkham City Harley Quinn’s Revenge pack is also available for this price, alongside Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’s Arctic Strike pack.

If you’d like a little more Ghost Recon action, the Raven Strike content is available for 600 MSP. Quantum Conundrum and Dungeon Defenders can also be purchased at this price.

Amongst the cheapest content is Forza Horizon’s October Car Pack, which will set you back 200 MSP.

While these downloads are only available at a cheaper price throughout November 23, plenty of other content is on sale until Monday.

Online megastore Amazon has kicked off its yearly Black Friday celebrations – a week of dramatic price-cuts on items available for a limited time or until stock runs out.

All the deals are viewable on Amazon’s Black Friday Lightning Deal page. Sale prices are only revealed when items go live.

Friday’s Amazon Black Friday deals week concludes today with copies of Hitman: Absolution on PS3 and Xbox 360 available at 12pm.

Xbox 360 copies of Crackdown 2 will be discounted at 7.15pm, the same time as a price-drop on Red Faction: Armageddon for PS3 and Spider-Man: Edge of Time on Xbox 360.
